JT Inc is not currently seeking production team members, but is always accepting applications. Below is a typical season timeline.
Production Teams
We are seeking a diverse group of adult professionals to serve on our production teams for our 73rd Season, and final season at the Annie Wittenmeyer Complex! All professionals are hired as independent contractors and are compensated in line with local standards. A typical process for a production totals around 8 weeks. Schedule for rehearsals is flexible, but would typically be 4-5 week days from 5:30 or 6 to 8pm and one weekend day for 3-4 hours. Designers have a very flexible schedule. We produce 3 fully realized shows per season. The schedule this year is as follows:
Show # 1:
First Production Meeting: August 21st
Rehearsals begin: around September 4th
Performs: October 12th-20th
Show #2 (Musical):
First Production Meeting: December 18th
Rehearsals begin: around January 2nd
Performs: February 15th-23rd
Show #3:
First Production Meeting: Early March
Rehearsals begin: around March 12th
Performs: April 26th-May 4th
All production teams will work with our leadership team, especially the Artistic Director and Production Stage Manager.
Production Team Roles
Main Designers are expected to attend all production meetings, respond to communication within 48 hours, and meet all deadlines set out in the first production meeting. Individual role descriptions will provide further expectations.
Set Designer: Contractor will work with the Director to design a set within the overall artistic vision. They will provide renderings and scenic design plans and specs on timeline linked with production meeting schedule. Contractor will be available to answer questions and make routine visits to the theatre to oversee that the design is completed on time. Contractor may need to assist in the construction of some scenic elements. Contractor will work with the Master Carpenter and manage the Scenic Painter to assure the set is completed on schedule. In addition to production meetings, ideally Set Designer will attend one or two tech rehearsals.
Master Carpenter: Contractor will be responsible for overseeing the construction of the scenic elements for production. They will be responsible for overseeing any assistant contractors and/or volunteers during construction times. Contractor will use supplies provided by Junior Theatre and the budget for said production. Contractor will use as many in stock items as possible. All constructed items are property of Junior Theatre. Contractor will maintain set throughout run of production, with a key focus on safety. Coordinates painting with Set Designer, Scenic Painter, and any Tech Assistants. In addition to production meetings, ideally Master Carpenter will attend one or two tech rehearsals and is required to attend and/or lead Load in and Strike.
Props Designer: Contractor will be responsible for overseeing the construction and securing of all props for the production within the Director’s vision. Contractor will use supplies provided by Junior Theatre and the budget for said production. Contractor will maintain props throughout the run of production. Contractor is responsible for coordinating setup of props areas backstage to track all items with Stage Manager. In addition to production meetings, Props Designer will attend Strike if possible.
Costume Designer: Contractor will be responsible for the design of all costumes. Contractor will work with current Junior Theatre Costume Stock, along with a provided budget, to build or purchase any additional costumes for the production. All built costumes are property of Junior Theatre. Contractor will provide costume plots and plans for the run of production as needed to Stage Management and Wardrobe, as well as work through tech rehearsals as needed to secure costume flow and needs. Contractor will manage Costume Assistant to build and prepare show. Contractor will coordinate with Wardrobe and develop plans for costume care as needed. In addition to production meetings, Costumer will attend Costume Parade, dress rehearsals, and Strike if possible.
Sound Designer: Contractor will be responsible for designing all needed sound for the production, including pre-show & post-show tracks in consultation with Director. Sound Designer will also assist in setting up any additional sound equipment needed for production (i.e. monitors, mics, body mics, etc). One Sound Cue Prompt script will need to be supplied to the Stage Management Team. Contractor should view rehearsals as needed to understand how their design impacts the show. In addition to production meetings, Sound Designer will attend Dry Tech, and some tech rehearsals as needed. Sound Designer will ensure all equipment gets put back at the end of a production.
Lighting Designer: Contractor will be responsible for the design of the lights. Contractor will coordinate and oversee the light hang and focus, write light cues, and manage any lighting assistants. The contractor will provide a Light Cue Script for Stage Management. Contractor will provide an up-to-date light plot of all instruments that are hung or program plot into Magic Sheet. In addition to production meetings, Lighting Designer will attend Dry Tech and some tech rehearsals as needed. Lighting Designer is responsible for returning lights back to “house plot” by date set forth in production meetings.
Assistant Director: Contractor will be responsible for assisting the director as needed. This may include helping to cast the production, assist in establishing and overseeing scheduling, lead or assist with rehearsals. Contractor will be present for all production meetings and attend independent meetings with production team members as needed.
Music Director (Show #2 Only): Contractor is responsible for teaching all music for the production. Contractor will lead rehearsals relating to music and ensure students have the tools and resources needed to be successful. Contractor will collaborate with Director and Choreographer to make sure musical numbers are well executed. In addition to production meetings, Music Director should attend tech rehearsals and give notes to students.
Choreographer (Show #2 Only): Contractor will be responsible for creating choreography for production that is in line with the Director’s vision. Contractor will lead rehearsals relating to choreography and ensure students have the tools and resources needed to be successful. Contractor will collaborate with Director and Music Director to make sure musical numbers are well executed. In addition to production meetings, Choreographer should attend tech rehearsals and give notes to students.
Assistant Director/Choreographer (Show #2 Only): Contractor will be responsible for assisting the Director and/or Choreographer as needed. This may include helping to cast the production, assist in establishing and overseeing scheduling, assist with creating choreography and blocking, lead and/or assist with rehearsals. Contractor will be present for all production meetings and attend independent meetings with production team members as needed.
Assistant Roles: These members are not required to attend all production meetings, and typically have a smaller commitment, assisting designers as needed.
Set Build Assistant: Contractor will be responsible for helping to build the set, as set forth by Master Carpenter. Ideally they will attend and assist in Load in and Strike.
Scenic Painter: Contractor will be responsible for completing the scenic painting within the vision of the Director and Set Designer. Contractor will work with Master Carpenter and Scenic Designer to secure any items that need purchased. Contractor will touch up any paint that needs done throughout run. Contractor will complete scenic painting in accordance with show specific timeline.
Costume Build Assistant: Contractor will be responsible for assisting the Costume Designer with building and/or altering any costume pieces as requested. Ideally Costume Build Assistant would attend Costume Parade and Strike if possible.
Wardrobe Master: Contractor will be responsible for maintaining costumes throughout the run of productions, including working all performances. Contractor will work in conjunction with Costume Designer to see costumes for show are a success. Contractor may be responsible for the laundering some or all items. Contractor will execute dressing room setup, planning, use and procedures for actors and crew. Contractor will work with student wardrobe team to prepare all actors. Contractor will work with actors in doing as much of their preparation as they can independently. Ideally Wardrobe Master would attend Costume Parade and Strike.
Hair and Make-up: Contractor will work with Director and Costume Designer to design hair and make-up looks for cast. Contractor will work with Wardrobe and any student crew to execute the vision. They will attend dress rehearsals as well as prep time for all performances.
Lighting Assistant: Contractor will be responsible for assisting the Lighting Designer. Duties may include assisting with hang, focus, and programming. Typically only needed for a few days.
Mainstage Leadership Team
Artistic Director (Ashley Becher) sets tone, vision, and culture, selects productions, recruits production team members, and maintains communication with families and students.
Production Stage Manager (Valerie Moore) focuses on developing all technical and design aspects for the show, working in tandem with Artistic Director, show director, and production team members.
Development Director (Leslie Klipsch), focuses on fundraising, grants, endowment, alumni relations, and other initiatives related to development.
JT Inc Board of Directors provides key oversight, governance and authority.
