Meet the Staff Series: Max Moline

Meet Max Moline!

Max previously served as one of our AmeriCorps members, and is now one of our amazing Theatre Instructors! We asked him a series of questions ranging from silly to serious in order to get to know him a little better. The informal interview follows:

When did you first discover your passion for theatre? Was there one specific moment you can recall?

I remember deciding that I wanted to make theatre my career after I did Little Shop of Horrors in high school. During the curtain call, I remember looking out and seeing how many people were smiling and applauding and I wanted to see people that happy as much as possible for the rest of my life.

How do you spend your free time?

Reading, Dungeons and Dragons, Working Out and Coffee. Coffee is a hobby right?

What song always puts you in a good mood?

99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger

Favorite productions?

The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged), Peter and The Starcatcher, Lonely Planet and Agnes of God

What's the best thing you've seen on stage recently?

The Glass Menagerie at Mississippi Bend Players or Cabaret at SAU

Favorite playwrights?

Rajiv Joseph, David Mamet, Bob Fosse, Lanford Wilson

What quote do you live by?

"Failure has always been my greatest mentor."

Who are your heroes?

My Mother, Dr. Corinne Johnson, Matt Elliot and any waiter who doesn't judge me for going out to eat alone.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you were younger?

Every time you fail, it's a chance to grow. Embrace it.

What is your favorite thing about Junior Theatre?

How welcoming and accepting the environment is as well as how much they care about student growth, both onstage and off.

What do you love most about teaching children's theatre?

Seeing kids get excited about something that can and will change their life for the better.

What is on your bucket list?

Burning Man, getting my Doctorate and actually finishing a campaign in D&D.

How do you find inspiration?

I read about various historical events, look out at the stars or listen to music of a genre I have not ever listened to before.

What was the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Plan ahead for everything, then be prepared for all your plans to not apply at all and get ready to improv.

What was your favorite class in school?

Directing Class in College, History in High School

What's your favorite food?

Chicken Tikka Masla or Sushi. Or Ranch Dressing.

If you had one superpower, what would it be?

The ability to always find my keys and glasses because I lose them all the time.
