Job Opportunity Overview with City of Davenport-Parks & Recreation

Due to continued success in our programs, Davenport Junior Theatre is proud to be hiring for Dance Instructors, Theatre Instructors, and Program Aides (Junior Staff).

We are seeking talented individuals who are passionate about using the arts to develop kids’ clarity, confidence and creativity. Our goal is to empower kids to have a lifetime of success.  Skills learned in the arts are applicable to everything in life. 

To accomplish this mission, we seek the area’s most talented and experienced workers & artists to serve kids.  We hope you consider applying.

All positions are with the City of Davenport, Parks and Recreation Department.   Pay is bi-weekly and all positions have access to the IPERS retirement program as jobs are deemed in the public sector. Applications dues by Friday, July 28.

Theatre Instructors

Clearly, confidently and creatively are the attributes we hope to give to kids so they can succeed no matter where life takes them.  To develop these skills, we use the art and craft of theatre!

We are seeking teachers for a variety of classes.  We serve youth ages 3 – 18 years.  We offer classes in acting, improv, broadway (musical theatre), and more.  To learn more about our classes and what we have to offer, checkout our theatre class listings at this link.

Classes generally fall between 3:30-8:30, Monday – Thursday;  9:00 – 1:00, Saturday. Some Thursday daytime classes may be available in our homeschool program.  We offer three sessions throughout the year, equaling 32 weeks of teaching hours available (Fall Session, Winter Session, Summer Session). Additional hours may be available for camps and other projects.

Fall Session (10-Week Session) : September 9 – November 18 (approximately)
Winter Session (11-Week Session) : January 13 – April 7 (approximately)
Summer Session (10-Week Session) : June 18 – August 18 (approximately)
* All classes end in special showcase performance series.

Theatre instructor positions are part-time, year round.  Positions typically consist of teaching one or two nights per week, 2 – 4 classes.  Positions do not typically hold working hours during non-programming weeks, with the exception of team trainings.   Class scheduling is done each session to try and work with instructors individual and changing personal schedules.  Many of our instructors are involved with other local theatre companies while teaching at DJT.

Dance Instructors

Our dance program focuses on instilling a positive outlook of self, poise, healthy body image, confidence and a love of dance.  Our goal is to engage & empower every child, while teaching them to express.   We offer support to each instructor so they have more time to focus on their students and helping them succeed.

We are seeking dancers of all experience and backgrounds.  We offer classes of all levels in Hip-Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Poms, Lyrical, Tumbling and more.  To learn more about our classes and what we have to offer, checkout our class listings at this link.

Classes generally fall between 3:30-8:30, Monday – Thursday;  9:00 – 1:00, Saturday.   Some Thursday daytime classes may be available in our homeschool program.  Additional opportunities outside of classes may be available.

We offer three sessions:
Fall Session (12-Week Session) : September 9 – December 9 (approximately), ends in staged sharing
Winter Session (15-Week Session) : January 13 – May 12 (approximately), ends in Recital
Summer Session (6-Week Session) : June 18 – July 26 (approximately), ends with in class sharing

Program Aides (Junior Staff)

Referred to as our Junior Staff, we seek young professoinals of high school and college age to act as the support team for our organization. Our hope is to mentor young people into their next professional opportunity!  Position is rewarding, fun, and part of building professional skills for future employment.

Theatre Program Aides assist with all classes by helping create the costumes, props, set, tech (lights & sound) and more.  Program Aides may also be offered additional hours throughout the year for camps or special projects.

Dance Program Aides help support all dance programming.  Program Aides help with the main lobby, assisting teachers in classrooms, working on special studio projects, and more.  A large part of the job is building healthy and positive relationships with families on a weekly basis.

MAINSTAGE PRODUCTION COMPANY

Our Mainstage Acting Company produces fully-realized professional productions. We are seeking staff and designers for our 66th season of theatre "For Kids, By Kids"!  Our goal is to help empower every child by helping them communicate clearly, confidently and creatively.  Theatre is one of our tools to achieving that goal!

All positions are paid as contractors by Junior Theatre Inc, a 501-c-3 non-profit.  Rates are competitive with other professional theatre companies in the QC area.

Professionals should be experienced, enthusiastic, and excited to work with young actors. We create a complete theatre experience for our students and our production teams. You will be supported organizationally and artistically as a professional. Our goal is to serve the kids, by serving the story as well.

All production team members should be comfortable working with children ages 9 and up.

Positions sought:

Director, Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Costume Designer, Props Designer, Sound Designer / Composer, Scenic Designer, Technical Director, Costume Coordinator, Assistant Technical Director, Master Electrician, Scenic Painter, and any othe special theatrical skill of which you'd like to make us aware. A Musical Director and Choreographer are also sought for our musical produciton.
